I also caught a keeper gummy, 3ft, straight out from where Grant was fishing.
I was really hopeing for something pinkish or reddish however the greyish lasted two enjoyable meals.
Cheers Ted

Maybe you could post in the "cooking your catch thread" how you cooked it.

I thought spring had sprung in Melbourne, but the weather on Sunday put me off that idea.
Only got one chance to fish Sunday arvo, so I headed to the Bass beaches for a look.
Now, I've never (I mean never) walked away from a beach without at least wetting a line, so even though the wind was present and rain was coming down steady, I loaded my gear and walked the path to Williamsons. Even had the umbrella juggled between rods.
When I got over the dunes I was hit by about 50knots of wind. The umbrella went inside out, then broke off the handle. I could hardly stand. The wind was coming straight across the beach with huge waves coming all the way into shore, dumping. Spray off the waves flew 50 meters or so across, and no hole or gutter was in view.
Fisrt time in my 2 and 1/2 years of fishing I turned back to the car with bait bags unopened.
Drove back to Kilcunda and waited in the car for 45 minutes or so to see if it dropped off. Nope.
3 hour round trip drive with only a broken umberella to show. I hope there biting twice as hard when I get to fish next.
Fish on.
Dave.

Hey Grant,
I guess that's fishing. There's been many a time I've walked away from rock fishing due to the weather, but no the beach.
No, I'm not a member of Fangvic yet. I contribute to a few forum sites as 'salmon-king or salmon-head. Give a few reports via web to club's I've bumped into at the beach, and give and get tips from Paul and the boys at Cranbourne fish and tackel (Dave 'surf king' O'Brien).
Never been into club scenes, so I'll be a hard convert.
I'm boiling at the moment with anticipation of going across to Ceduna SA in the first week of October. Went there last December with my old man and we caught snapper, gropper and samson to 20/25lb, salmon to 14lb, Harliquin, big sweep, tuna.....sorry I'm starting to drool.
I'll keep you posted on return.
Fish on.
Dave
