Can someone tell me whether or not a sway axel trailer is legal .? Ive been dragging my old boat around for months on a sway axel and have been told by someone who really doesnt know what his on about that its illegal.

Hi Steve, a normal axle goes from the centre of the wheels O----O a sway axle is attached to the bottom of the wheels making the trailer lower . I think its also called a swing axle.

from vicroads is the requirements for a trailer pre 1991 and if it registered it is legal one would think.

from what I can find out, If your trailer has been previously rego'd by Vic Roads,It's legal.

Thanks for your help guys now I can tow the old gal around without thinking up an excuse to give the boys in blue if I got picked up with an ilegal trailer.

Hi Steve, no sale yet but have 2 guys interested but Im not in a great hurry to loose the boat yet as I will be boatless I would like to get rid of the car first then I can go out and get the boat I want.
