After hearing all about Grants new toy(penn 320 gt2)
I have just got me a new reel

Its a Penn International 975ld
I just cant wait to use it

Nice. I had to take my reel back today as Salmon-king pointed out yesterday I was missing the drag knob for freespooling.

Got one at Nidgerie said they would replace it at no questions asked.

Any reason you went for the lever drag??

I went for the lever drag because its easier to pre set
and I love it I caught a fish on it last tuesday

Its so much easier to use than a star drag
I have ten overheads with star drags
and I will never buy another

How would that reel compare with a Shimano Charter Special??

In my opinion
A shimano charter special is a great reel
I talked my father in law into buying one
just last week. Its a value for money leverdrag
that is built to last when looked after.
for a little more money a shimano Tld 15 or 20
is even better.(I HAVE OWNED ONE!)
they would be in the holden statesman category
however the penn international is a rolls royce.
