Gday All

I have to ask you victorians what makes gummy shark such a great catch in Victoria?

is it becuase of the tasting or is it just that they are easy to catch or what

it seems to me that Gummys' rate very highly in Victoria where as other states gummy's really dont even get a shoe in on the other catches

I just cant work out why victorians rate them as high as they do

is there any reason as to why?

cheers
OZ

Hi Oz,
My personal thoughts on the Gummy are,

Gummy,s are one of the best tasting fish in my books and are great fun to catch, I also think that in Victoria we dont have many of the so called big game fish, like up north and other states they have the barramundi, the sail fish, the marlin, the big GTs, Queen fish, Dolphin fish, mangrove jack,Tuna, ect, ect.
Because we are fairly limited in the way of big game fish the Gummy shark has become a prized catch to most Victorian fisho,s and also we dont have to fish the outside or very deep waters to catch a gummy, Ive caught them land based and from a boat in less than 10 metres of water.

Pain in the butt to skin, but worth it for the eating, one of my favorites :) :)

Karen, you are sooooooo right. The gummy is just the best tasting fish for me. KGW are close but for me it's the gummy.

Shoulders, I too believed the gummy to be a pain in the butt, however I witnessed a master down at Toora recently who had a 4 foot gummy filleted and skinned within minutes.

Can't begin to explain how he did it but when I manage some instructions I'll post it here.

That would be great Des. :)
I remember watching my grandfather skin them on the beach at Sandy Point down near Shallow Inlet after catching them in the surf, he was about the best I've seen, although no two ever seemed to be the same, I do remember some colourful language at times, bit of an art to it I reckon :? :?

Cheers........Shoulders.

Without doubt the best tasting fish of all. Not only great tasting but you get a decent size feed as well.
