Recently cleaned out the freezer in the garage and found a snapper that has been in there since last season.
What do you guys think the chances are that it's still okay?
Anyone eaten a fish that has been frozen for a long time?
With Rosie's cooking it probably wont make any difference.
Des-- your misus is going to give you a real going over when she decides to read fishing threads!!!!!
I reckon about 6-7 months is it in the freezer. had the same problem a couple of months ago, bit the bullet and chucked it. Just wasn't game to eat it!!

Probably be as hard after you thawed it out as it was when it was frozen
Six months is about max for most fish as a general rule. :)

Sorry Grant
Actually the reason I ask is that I'd been promising one to a friend for ages and we've either eaten them or given one or two away to others when I get a good bag.
He cornered me the other day after hearing that I'd had a good day. The only one I had left was the one I found at the bottom of the freezer so I gave it to him.
Hahahahahahaha........................now I found out that it will be **** hahahahahahahahahaha..................guess he wont ask for another one.

Des, I would be chucking it, you dont want a case of food poisoning when theres fishing to be done, :( and I wouldnt like to be in your shoes when Rosie gets hold of these posts my friend

Vac sealed, 6-9 month's.
After that, it's shark bait/burley.
Dropped into a tackle shop in Port Augusta, opened the bait fridge, and there was a beaut 8-10kg snapper frozen on top. One of the boy's said "Leave that alone. That's my shark bait for tonight." I told him it looked good enough to eat. To which he said "After 3 months in the freezer, it's shark bait".

Good idea stroker. I 'm not in the habit of keeping fish in the freezer long enough to need to mince them up for burley athough all my old unused bait goes thyat way.
Cheers,
Andrew.

i bought myself a Sunbeam FoodSaver vacuum Sealer for ~$150 last tuna season... Best thing i'v ever done for freezing catch.
Not only does it reduce freezer burn and increase the time you can store in freezer but it makes stacking fish in the freezer easier also. Highly recommended.
