Hi everyone-- Thought I had better give a little report of activity's!

Met Des on the water at approx 5am, 16mtrs off Seaford.
Had a little yack, dropped the anchor, and set about baiting up, next thing , an excited WE'RE ON came from Des's boat. Whilst baiting up, I watched the fight go on and on with the rod bent right over, the big fella trying to steer the approx 15k fish, grunting , struggling, miles of line being peeled off-- and then I got distracted by a bend in my rod!

After an enjoyable tussle, I was able to slip the net under, and a handsome 4k snapper came on board. After which, I was able to reconcentrate on the epic battle going on beside me. Where's yours Des? I asked. Got bitten off, was the forlorn reply!

After resetting positions because of boat swing, we both settled down to that sometimes long wait for the next hit, and communicatted by hand signals.

After some time, (about the time I was getting bored) the mobile rang.

Bloody Hell ! was the cry, something tells me I shouldn't be out here today!

Des had hooked another on the same rod (which was a light rod and line).
U***le to totally control the direction of the fish, It then decided to wrap itself around the burley bucket line, only to give one final lunge, and snapped the line!

After a further yack, I left Des, who had that determined look on his face, and motored off to play golf.

Cheers Ted

Ted i think I should have come in with you and played golf. :(

As the wind had dropped to below 5 knots and with an appointment cancelled I decided to stay out a bit longer than initially anticpated. Also due to such a bad start to he day I might add.

As Ted has explained the first hit was a beauty, I have caught 2 snapper at 5kg this year and this fish was a lot bigger than them. Unfortunately with 3 snapper rods out the snappersaurus chose my 1-3kg whiting rod with 2kg line. There was no stopping it and definately no turning it. The head shaking assures me it was a snappersaurus, but eventually my 15kg trace was bitten through.

Lost the second one when tangled in burley pot rope. Managed to get it to the surface about 5m from the boat but as I tried to bring it closer whilst untangling my line it last grab for freedom was successful.

After Ted abandoned me, I decided like after most separations it was time for a change  so i went deeper to a favourite mark. Was all alone (great I thought) so quietly set about making ready. All rods in and the whiting rig safely away so as not to shatter me again.

Overheads are a part of my favourite set up but often roll over in the rod holders if a bit rocky. This happened a couple of times but didn't really take a lot of notice and wasn't concerned.

Next minute a rod on Grants side buckled and I immediately thought
"great idea it was to move". Just picked it up in my trustees and bang the line went dead, shucks (or words to that effect)I said as I began to wind it in, no weight, tackles gone. Line had snapped somewhere above the trace.

This really is not my day. Further inspection revealed the drag was too tight. These were set the night before so must have been knocked when it kept rolling over in the rod holder. Heck I thought the fishing gods are against me today (or words to that effect), or worse, maybe my wife had something to do with it as she is a lot closer to the big fella than me.

Stayed a little longer and was rewarded with one at 2.2kg, not quite a snappersaurus but after my morning I wasn't complaining.

Thanks for your company again Ted. We'll fish in Easterlies any time I reckon.
