Barbless Hooks - what do you know?

G'day,

just watching a few fishing shows I have taped (fishing wa rocks!) and was wondering if you guys buy / make barbless hooks to be able to C&R easier?

I would very much like to use barbless, can you push the barb down on a normal sucide config hook or do you have to buy them?

yes you can push the barb down on ya sucide hook to make it barbless and you could even file it off if you wanted to

Also i do believe you can purchase barbless hooks i have seem them in some tacklestores

Grab ya pliers Grant and just squeeze down the barb being careful of course that the hook doesn't turn and bury itself in your finger/hand

cool. I have also started sharpening my hooks. not sure why they never get blunt on fishless outings!

I use the pliers and squash em down, especially when Im fishing PPB with all the small flatties, its easier for me to release them and gives the flatties a fighting chance by useing barbless hooks.

do you loose many fish. I have heard if you keep the line tight while pulling in the fish, it is as effective, it sonly if you let it run, that it might get off.

I have lost a few good sized fish that I swear were not the small flatties and at the time my line could have been somewhat tighter, so after trial and alot of error I have found that the tighter the line the more fish onboard.
I think it all comes down to practice makes perfect.

not just that... when theres no barbs it real easy to get out of body parts and clothes..... only say that coz i havernt caught a fish this year :oops: , got to get out soon...

Fishing.....that's what this site is about :shock: :shock: I haven't been able to cast a hook in anger for a while now. Hope to rectify that in the coming days/week :D :D

Boss in town form London this weekend
I fly out to london for 7 days oN Sunday get back monday morning week after, then move house two days later, then go to singapore week after.

Then Houston two weeks after that!

All I want to do is wet a line. Its going to be March at this rate! I have however spied an opening onthe morning of the 11th for a early morning fish.
