hey guys, as prommised in a previous post, the hook I use for jewies when live baiting with small mullet, " MUSTARD BIG GUN 1/0" have only found them in kmart and bigw, other tackle shops may have them now, complete in moorabbin said they were going to get them in, same with malones in newport,

Dave,
Is that a 1/0 hook? not 10/0 or 11/0?
Are they big enough?

Dave.

its a 1/0, as the mullet i will be using are not that big, these hooks are fine but very strong and a made for small live baits, they allow you to insert the hook in the top of the mullet under the dorsel fin with out killing it, and they will stay alive for hours, they are plenty big enough, and very sharp. the area we fish you do not cast bait out, just lower it straight down as the jewies hunt around the pylons looking for the small mullet, have used bigger mullet at these locations fishing the same method but they tend to swim around the pylons more. biggest jewie i have seen landed on these small mullet hit the scales at 16kgs

Do you ever use the Mustard Penetrator, say 4/0 - 6/0, thin gauge hook. Very thin for rigging up livies. However, not sure on hook strength.

cant say i have, but a hook of that size i think will be defintaly to big for the small livies as they wouldnt any bigger than 8cm
