Flushing fuel?

on my 8hp yammy(02mdl) i run all the fuel out of it while im washing it down, it starts first time every time without fail, on the next trip.

do bigger motors that fuel lines can stay attached, be run out or left full?
when towing your boat home do you disconect your fuel line?
