Well boys its an absolute ripper of a day so Ive decided to get the surf gear out and head off to the Rye back beach and get me some gummys and pop for some Aussie Salmon, :D :D Im dragging the daughters B/F along so he can work the camera and get some good pics for Grant .
So watch this space for a decent report { I hope } or watch the 6.30 news for a missing B/F report, it may go something like this,
" MISSING presumed drowned after dropping a new camera in the surf, all hopes of finding him alive are very slim " . :o

Karren

the snapper are comming, and Im gonna be there to greet em

Surf fishing was absolutely wonderfull, huge waves, beautifull sunshine and only 1 other fisho. There was a big run of Aussie Salmon which was exciting but the big thrill for me was what we thought to be a blue shark around 3.5 to 4 foot long was taking bait after bait and rig after rig so after 3 nylon rigs I went through my tackle box and found a wire trace and my last biggest hook which was a wide gap so I used this and a keeper hook, baited them with a whole salmon and cast my line, 5 minutes later my reel was screaming and I thought I really had him but as it worked out I didnt have him cause an old join in my line I forgot was there gave way and I lost the bloody lot, but as we were packing up the old guy who was fishing about 100 metres up from us stopped to show us his catch on his way to the car, he had caught a little Mako not quite a 4 footer and it had my wide gap and keeper hook hanging  out the corner of its mouth  , and this old bloke said he had fished all of his life but this was his very first shark and the biggest fish he had ever caught, then he explained how he had lost his wife of 63 years recently and was going to live with his daughter on a veggie farm in the Dandenongs and this was his last ever fishing trip . :(
So this is not the report I was hoping to put in but it is a confirmation that us who love our fishing are pretty dam lucky cause we get to meet some pretty dam fine people whilst doing what we love. :D

Karren

The snapper are comming and this time I will have my own boat to chase em in

It was he,s fish he,s glory, it may sound a bit silly butI have a problem with people having thier photo,s taken whilst holding someone else,s catch, I knew a bloke who served with me in the Army at Townsville who always told amazing stories of all the marlin he caught out from Cairns and he had the photo,s to prove it, to cut a long story short, this fella had never been out chasing Marlin he hung around the marlin boats at the weigh stations and asked other tourists to take photo,s with his camera as he stood by the huge fish. that he didnt catch.

can see your point, but hey, you could have said its the one that got away and then caught by the other person in pic, after all it was a combined effort, you originally tired the fish, then after your fight, the mako saw a bit of tucker and decided to eat that to regain the energy that it lost when fighting with you.

Karren,
Was the old guy wearing the Mad Keen fishing t-shirt 'By the way, I caught the fish you lost"?

A bit frustrating. Great story though. Mako from the beach is rare.

The big Kingie I caught in SA also had one of the other guy's rig's in it's belly. He got alot of stick from his mates around the gutting table.

It's also amazing how many stories you hear about people loosing fish to line joins within the spool.

Love the shirt Dave, I think I know how your mate felt finding his rig in the belly of your fish must have hurt a little.
When we first sighted the shark it looked like a small blue it wasnt as psycho as you would expect a mako to be and there have been sightings of small blue sharks around that end of PPB recently, my son inlaw took a great pic of a blue basking around the boat off Mt Martha a couple of weeks back.
Ah well thats fishing , expect the unexpected and have fun doing it I say. :D
