View Full Version : Why I like this site

Guys I might go on ranting a bit here so edit it if you want.
I feel that whilst the site is small and new it will and is a winner in my eyes. The bitterness and personal attacks on the major site is both boring and offensive.
Whilst I do agree with what they do, I feel that there is just so much misinformation and malice towards members that people will get jack of it.
I include myself in it as since I do the forbidden and publish a book that contains waypoints.(I will be going straight to hell I was told they other day)
My reasons for this are well known. To help guys that are just coming into the sport a few starting points. To show there wives where they will be prior to leaving. To be able to pick an area to fish by just listerning to the reports both broadcast and pubilshed and in general trying to improve there chances of getting a feed to bring home,as fishing is not the cheapest sport going and to come home fishless is both discouraging
and a bit costly at $1.50 a ltr.
At this point I do like to thank Piscatorial Worshippers for there support and encouragment and wish them the best for the future
Cheres guys and lets hope that is season is a cracker

Well said, I to no longer participate in the forums on fishnut, for the same reasons, as I have had threats and insults directed to me just for giving out info on a particluar loacation, is helping fellow anglers what its all about,
This site we can all give out info and advice with out getting jumped on,
as i have said before, great site well don guys

We may be a small site compared to others but our members are in no way small minded individuals who get thier jollies out of putting others down.
Common decency and respect are basic rights and cost us nothing, but lack of it can cost us more than we ever bargained for.
I truely value my membership in here and have made some life long friends who mean a great deal to me,
I cant be bothered with all the *****ing and back stabbing that goes on in another site , so you guys are stuck with me. lol
My old nan used to say to me , " treat others the way you wish to be treated " and as usual she was spot on.

Well said everyone and I agree with you all.
Had some free time the other night and logged on to fishnuts. Had enough after reading half a dozen threads and logged out. Can't be bothered.

I give hot spots for free, landbased of course,
SNAPPER
Mt.martha rocks, bradford rd area, sept-late november has produced big reds for me, number 1 gun bait this time of year is fresh squid and couta, times I fish are from 2am-8am, or 7pm-when ever.
St'kilda breakwater next to kiosk, fish arnt big, upto 4kgs,
Havnt fished kerfered rd pier for a few years, but locals keep me informed, most fish are caught late at night 11pm onwards, best times sept-jan, with a southerly blow,
Lagoon pier, fishes same times as kerfo, but the best thing about lagoon is that you can get them all year during the winter,
thats all for now, will post more as the weeks go by,
will give out locations for kingies, sharks, bream, jewies, ludrick/zebra fish, whiting,
dave
now isnt that what fishing is all about

It warms my cockles to hear this! :-)
Des, (who made the point of why get big) is the one to think, I was about to order 1000 stickers and 1000 busniness car∂s for worshippers, I think I prefer it this way, but would like to bring people in along the way.
This is one of the reassons I say psread the word, if we bring in folk we want, no hassles! We have only kicked one perosn in the first year... RIP black truck...

I have been watching the other sites with interest of late, I dont really think anything has changed in the year that we have been around.
The stabbing and snipping is getting worse. its like road rage but with keyboards.
We get a massive and I mean massive amount of guests. The thing is they gleem info and leave.
This is something we either live with or make it, that you have to me a member to get into the reports section, like we have done with Mark of the Month. (very successful)
But that of course may just make us like the rest. I am still with Des on size doesnt matter. But I would like to hear other voices.

Im all for keeping us small and friendly but when it comes to others popping in just to find where the fish are I feel that maybe it should be a members only privelidge.

i think you have to work out what the site was set up for in the first place, if it was to share info, then it should be open to all, if its a community of fishos(which for the last year its been great all though i never met anyone from here) it should be sign up forsure, the direction Grants taking this it could become very popular and thers nothing wrong with that, but you stilll need to ask what was the reason to start this?

Ahhh..... Deep and porfound question grasshopper.
The reason for the required reg was that we get so many people that just gleem info and never really interact. I have found loads of posts on other websites that people cut and paste from here.
Just trying to get a bit more interaction.
But the initial premise is no different which is and was a safe haven for newbies and experienced folk, who dont want all the crap on other sites.

I've been here all of a matter of hours and can say it is a welcome change. I was a regular visitor to the other place and made a few posts but the level of aggression shown by some to others makes it feel like I'm on the freeway home each night. I don't need that garbage. I'm here to both learn from others and to impart any knowledge I have to those who ask or need. I have firm opinions on most matters but a reasoned, rational argument/debate will alter my thoughts. Elsewhere if you dare to stick your head above the desktop it can get shot off, unless you're one of the in-crowd.
This site has 3 basic, sensible rules. I will abide by them and hopefully the moderators will keep a watchful, but gentle, eye on things so that matters don't get out of hand.
I'm also a member at another site in the eastern suburbs where a similar ambiance/feeling to this one exists. It is people interested in fishing and related subjects, discussing fishing and boating without the aggro.
Thank you for welcoming me and I'll do what I can to help this site work.

This is the only site I bother with these days because it is obvious that everyone has something in common, a passion for fishing, it stands out in every thread.
I don't get to post too much these days but enjoy reading what your all up to.
You will always get people who are looking for something for nothing, my view would be like a good days fishing, take what you need, but its always good to give something back.
Cheers..............Shoulders.

I think it goes to the question of why be a member in the first place. You can enter, read and take without giving.
Membership should have its benefits. Taking the time to join may encourage participation.
I'd support accessability for members only.

Here we are and nearly another year gone.
Grants about to move os with the money he makes from the site (lol)
and we are still banging away at the keyboards enjoying the banter and info that is passed around here
In my time here I can say that you guys have been nothing more than great.
We have been able to keep the (crap) off the site and apart from a few emails to a member, it appears to be pretty smooth sailing.
To me we are either really good people who enjoy Sharing info around freely,or fisherman who enjoy Sharing what we know around freely.
The water last time I looked didnt have a dont fish here sign on it and if I dont have the chance to fish a spot I get no better pleasure than letting someone have a go at it.
Each season the bay gets busier. As a guy who has spent 25 out of his 41 years fishing ppb etc I can understand why people get a bit frustrated.
As I spend near $ 10.000 on my hobbie a year I think that its easy to loose perseptive on what is important, and feel sorry for people who do forget that its only a hobby.
I have been lucky to fish at times when others are working but it is a 2 way street and I work when others get the chance to fish
Enjoyble and frustrating as it might be its only a past time and I like so many others just enjoy it for what it is
In closing I will say again that myself and my wife wish each and every one a very merry christmas and a happy new year
Good fishing to us all
Cheers Rick

Rick and all the other PW members.
A happy, safe, fruitful festive season to you all.
And my New Year's resolutions are
1. Get my bloody boat on the water.
2. Start a campaign to wrest some of OUR money out of the claws of Bracksie and into serious improvements to our ramps.
This is a post i have been waiting for :D
For a year or so now i have habitually logged onto fishnut every morning at work, have recieved some good helpful advice from people who obviously have experiance in boat repairs etc and this was great while i was in process of building my tub, and i must say, and i am sure you all agree, that there is people on fishnut that are helpful and decent folk who genuinely want to assist...to them i say thanks.
But bloody hell!...i havent even bothered to participate for a good 3 months now, the small minded, petty squabling that keeps appearing totally puts me off. I discovered this site around that time and have been sitting back and watching daily, without logging in ( hmmm, does that make me some kinda voyouer :?: )purely because i wanted to see if this site will go the way of cyberspace mayhem as has fishnut, plainly here is frequented by a bunch of like minded people and i find that refreshing and motivating, i shall for what its worth participate in the future. So for those who want to know i am a bloke who lives in Safety Beach, launches at Safety Beach and usually drags his sorry **** back to Safety Beach fishless but nonetheless happy to have spent a few hours on the water.
My boat is an older Volero Arrow, refurbished after many hours, red deck and silver hull "Jaydee" if any of you good people spot me, please say gidday, will be delighted to chat. I own a sign company in Mornington and that takes a lot of my time, but i am always up for stealing some hours midweek and drowning some bait.
Cheers all and merry christmas
Ron

I cant do justice by saying too much, but its comments from Brent that make this site work.
I was lucky to be able to help but I suspect that most guys here given the same situation would of done the same thing.
I get a real buzz from hearing that they did that well
I do not believe that info is shared as much as it is here, in saying that if people do not ask questions, it makes it hard to try and post what guys want to know ( so ask question guys)(even if its where are the snapper now)
For a small site it is a real pleasure to be able to contribute and i hope to be able to into the future if you lot will put up with me?
There is very little crap and thats what I love
Cheers Rick

This is a great site Grant, well done! I struggle to imagine what fishing would be like without fishing forums... the vast amount that can be learnt in such a quick time is great!
I've just discovered Mr Fisho as well so I look forward to skimming through the pages of info there to learn even more!

Brent, I'm a member of both sites and one of the beautiful things about ******* and here is that you can mention the other site without getting involved in a keyboard shouting match.
Both sites are run so that members can share information in a calm friendly manner.
Between both sites there is a wealth of information covering both major bays, with this one tending more to PPB and ******* leaning towards Westernport.
Enjoy, and feel free to contribute.
