I am off to Port Douglas on Saturday and will be wetting a line most days. I have a charter planned and maybe a river fish by boat .
My dilema is do i focus on getting my first Barra and possibly go fishless or do I just enjoy it and go for a feed of qulaity fish (whatever bites)
I think the Barra will take real focus, and would only be a learning episode.
wht do you think?

I'd go for the enjoyment factor and get a decent feed of whatever is on the menu.
Would probably plan another trip at a later date to specifically target barra.

the best way to handle blackmail is to remove the evidence.
Daughter: "Daddy will you be like the other daddies"
Me "what do you mean"
Daughter "You know thin like the other daddies!"
Me: "eat your bloody diner..."

Port Douglas, I'm dreamin'!!
Who cares what you catch, go for the trip, dangle a line, catch whatever jumps onto your hook, enjoy the experience, save up the tips for the next dedicated barra trip and make us all green with envy when you get back and tell us all about it!!!
Enjoy.

I would be pot luck fishing with no real great expectations , that way if you landed a prize catch you could claim that you were targeting that species all along. :)
Just enjoy being on the water, whatever comes along comes along. 8)
And dont worry if you dont hook a Barra cause when I get back from my Darwin Barra trip in November I will tell share my Big Barra experience with you.

I am excited like a school kid!
I am all packed and fly out in the morning. My daughter (Neve) keeps asking why I am taking fishing rods and can she come fishing...
Who could refuse her! Now taking 4 rods. One very bright pink rod and reel for her.
I hope to get her onto her first decent fish. Only flatties so far. I might have another worshipper!
I have been banned from taking a laptop (work or play). So its going to be interesting. I have never gone on holidays and not taken my work laptop.
Ohh bye... very excited!

Well I am back...well not quite. We are sitting in the QANTAS club in Cairns as the airport has vlosed due to the runway being damaged or something.
The fishing has been the most interesting I have ever experienced.
We have caught
Whiting
Yellow finned bream
Salmon
Small skark
Stipey fish (not sure what they where)
Diamond type fish.
Nannygui - see picture
Coral trout
Moses Perch.
Busted off twice.
It was great, no massive fish, just loads of variety.
Soft plastics were a waste. even the locals dont use them.
So I wll give a full update when I get back (if ever) I wonder if I could go and have a fish while we wait!
