The reason you use an orange/onion bag instead of a purchased burly cage is that occassionly when out deep, toothie critters have been known to take a bite of it.

I have also used it whilst sharking from shore, its as follows

attatch burly bag to trace, have it about 2ft below surface and it will float out with your bait, the only problem is that on 3 occassions I have had a hit on the shark line, went to hook and missed, only to find burly gone.

nice one dave, do you need to leave lid open when freezing , alowing for the expansion?

I make my berley up using chook pellets, bread, tuna oil and any old bait and fish bits thats left over from a previouse trip, mix it all up add water and freeze it in a 2 litre plastic milk or cordial bottle , then when I need to use it I poke a few holes in the container, attach a line and throw it over board. it works a treat.

What I will be trying this season with the berly is somehting different, sounds silly but it may work, as I mentioned i the topic, the toothies took the berly bag instead of the nice stripey below it, so this time when I freeze it I will enclose toothie hook and trace so if toothie takes berly bag he/she also takes hook,

Only hope though I dont get a double hook-up, 1 toothie takes stripey, another takes berly bag, a bit far fetched I know, but anyhting can happen in fishing.

Speaking of the unusual in fishing, sister in law lives on the gold coast, told me today about some dude who lives 6 story's up and drops a shark bait in the canal below from his balcony, does quite well, found it on another website so it looks real.

now that fishing,
