Hey Lb,

I have no knowledge of the reels, as for overheads I cant go past the ABU's, yes I know that there are other makes and models on the market, but I have had mine for over 20yrs and still going strong, never had to replace any parts and believe me they have had thier work cut out, its all about looking after your gear.

yes Dave i have used ABU's from 5000,6000 thru to tens and they are not too bad but i found shimano calcuttas to be a tad more smooth (imo). but try the avets. they are out of this world!

Hi Des
Got the Avet LX6:1 from e-bay last year and coulden't be more impressed. It was recommended to me from a gun fisho and has since landed me a king of 5kg from the stones. Still smiling !!!
Regards Frank

LB ,

I have cast with the Avets after having a mag conversion and found them to be extremely smooth and with the solid frames incredibly tough.

Another reel that has also impressed me is the Diawa Saltiga surf Overhead. This too casts very well and is one reel that I am considering getting on my next trip to Japan.

The Avet sourced from the USA however would be a lot cheaper to purchase.

Either way they are top reels.

Regards:)

I have used one,
It was bought cheaper from the states
and as soon as you pick it up you can notice the quality.
Smoothness is an understatement.

cheers

I had a go using Busted's reel. once you get it set up correctly they are pretty easy to cast. You can feel the quality of it when you first pick it up.

I just have to get used to no level winds!!

the avets are up there with the saltiga and the trinidad, but with a cheaper price tag. i have used an avet sx and drag was smooth, ratchet was loude and it looked good. i rate them. you an pick1 up cheap from ebay.
