Just took delivery of a new 12ft kanji Beach rod! Bought it off ebay for $57.00 Its carbon Fibre, so should attract lightning very well!

Have an Alvey to attach, I bought a few years ago.

What line do you think I should put on. I read brendon saying 15lb is a good start (for casting ai would bet!). If you fish that light in the surf, do you need a serious leader?

I find the 20lb fins braid works for most surf targets (except sml mullet). Just change your leader to suit.

The 15 pound line is for fishing as well as casting, when casting the basic rule of thumb is that you require 10 pound breaking strain line for every 1 oz of weight being cast. Therefore for a 4 oz weight and bait a shock leader of 50 pounds would be recommended.

For competition casting weights over 5 oz the recommended shock leader strength is 80 pound.
