View Full Version : Inox and fishing line
Hi, new to site and hope I can learn a few things and share some info. First up I have read that you shouldnt get any spray lubricants like WD40, or Inox etc on your mono line as it breaks down the line. Fishing with a mate not long back come clean up time he gave his reels including line a good old belt of inox which he said does no harm only good? Can anyone confirm or deny.
Cheers, Burv.

i have also used wd40 and inox for years without adverse affects.
these days I use inox in preference to wd40 - it seems to leave a better finish on the rods and reels.
I would not go out of my way to spray the line, but I also don't get very stressed if I do spray the line (braid or mono).

i haven't used wd40 i only use inox . i use inox on the motor so at the same time i spray the reels . if inox were to break down the line i would be in trouble on my game gear and as of yet it hasn't let me down . keep in mind that i do change my line every couple of years so if there is an issue i don't see it .

i run mainly braid so i find it that it lasts a bit longer .it also depends where you fish eg reefy bottom , sand , drift . i also think it depends on how often you use them . i find that it's the sun that kills your line . i use them very often so they don't have time to sit in the sun and deteriorate.
it doesn't mean that i am doing it correct it's just how i do it .

I'd really try to avoid spraying on the line just to be on the safe side. It's not worth the risk just in case you get that fish of a lifetime then snap, there goes the mono.
I also use WD40 on the reels afer a session in the salt and have had no problems with it getting on the line.
Only area that can cause a problem is if you do not wipe the excess of the line on the overheads and try and belt out a powerfull cast. Too much spray on the line can cause line slip from under your thumb which is a pain.
For fishing have never had a problem.

Have used inox for the last few years on both reels and motor have not noticed any problems with line degrading. It tend to last longer than wd40

i hose the reels and line after each trip and then apply inox every couple of months. Works a treat.

ive always shyed from wd40 on line and gear but friends have used it no problem, for lines i tend to change mine every 2 years ive had to remove upto 20m in the past when land based fishing due to it getting washed around over a rough bottom and all burred up id rather loose a bit of line than a fish due to failed line, i may look into inox thanks
cheers pete

I use Inox and have so for about 10 years with no noticable issues.
I respool every three years on my gummy rods, and every 18 months I strip off all the line and respool from the other end, this gives me peace of mind for durability.

use inox and no worries, its vegetable based and doesnt hurt the lines. suposedly attracks the fish! but it keeps the reels and line healthy
