Yep .. tried a few ... not too much luck though (they seem to prefer chicken gut ... the more ill the chicken was before it died the better from the smell of some of the more attractive stuff...) ... but success was had ... Gulp's seem best ... gold/silver fleck - couple of minnows .... small shad got a few bites but no takers .... good luck... tell me what works for you ..

Stevo, I'm by no means an expert in plastics fishing, but I have caught a couple bream on plastics. It's not a walk in the park catching bream on lures, but very rewarding when you do.
Best plastic for me has been the Atomic 2" Fat Grub in Motor Oil Gold. Also Squidgy wrigglers (any small size) in avocado green. I just use the lightest jighead that allows me to cast into snags. depending on the plastic, I would suggest a medium-pace retrieve that is slow enough for the bream to notice it but quick enough for the fish to chase it and grab it hard.
Alternatively, you can use squidgy bugs (gold colour) that will skim across the top of the water. Again, not too much pace, just enough to make it look natural. I've not had success with these yet, but I've never given them much of a go. I beleive they work quite well around oyster leases and snaggy areas.
I think in one of the Squidgy DVDs Starlo and Bushy use the Squidgy Flick Baits in Evil Minnow colour on the bream and they're deadly. Best used in more murky waters i believe.
Good luck and let us know how you go!

I would be trying the gulp sandworm or the turtleback worms.
I caught my first sp bream about 2 months ago on a trimmed down sandworm.
I also caught a pinky and 2 more bream.

everyone has their favourite plastic for bream - mine is a bloodworm squidgy wriggler - the smallest one (can;t remember the size  ). although - like any fishing, a variety is handy to have.
as far as retreive goes - it depnds on the plastic.
if the plastic has any in-built action - like an atomic grub, squidgie wriggler etc, then I would try a very slow retrieve with many pauses and occasional jerk to get it off the bottom.
for lures with little or no inbuilt action, stickbaits, flickbaits etc, require you to impart action onto the lure. this is more jerks and pauses to make it look like an injured baitfish. don't forget to pause - often fish will take as the lure is falling after a pause.
as has been metioned - use as little weight as possible to suit conditions on the day.
g'day mate if you want to catch bream on soft plastics try starting off with a pkt of gulp 6" sandworms rigged on a 1/24oz jig head.best place to try for bream would be around the docklands or the yarra river just work your plastic next to boat hulls, pylons, jettys as bream tend to always be in the shelterd area hope this helps
