Just a quick thought but I'd be looking at your current electrical load as a, say, 50W flood light would be dragging another 4 amps out of your battery, and obviously a pair would be 8 amps.
I can't provide any links but maybe have a look at whether there are any spot/flood LED lights on the market now, as the current draw is a considerable amount less.
Of ocurse LEDs run a lot cooler while the old halogen at least gives you something to warm your hands on these cold wintry days.

they use 10% of the draw on average.

LED lights are great on power consumption, but in terms of light output, you need many, many LEDs to match the output of an incandescent. Have a look at the new 7W Luxeon LEDs and be sure to test them out in a dark room before buying. Also with LEDs, it's worth paying the extra for quality. Better colour, life, etc.

Let us know what choice you decide upon!

Cheers,
Brent

Im sold on the LED idea but looking at LED Aus web site they only seem to sell the bulbs? Who sells the actual light fittings for LED gear?

I got one LED light in the cabin of my boat. Got it from my brothers work at Adtrans which is a trucking spare parts supplier. Only cost me $4.95 retail. Does not need a separate switch because it is built in and only has 4 little LEDs in it. Try those sort of places for them.

ed pest, how much light does your type throw off? Is it enough to light up deck area and what type of light is it and how does it attach, screwed to boat or clipped to launchers etc.

Have attached two pictures. the first one is just a comparison for deck lights, you will see that the cover plate is the the same size at the ones that come standard on most boats, yet to replace mine but will doing soon. so no extra holes to be cut. the next picture is with the light on, it lights up the cabin of my boat fine, not that you could read a novel under it but it is good enought to bait hooks and see around. has four single LED's in it. see next post under this one for picture.

this is what the light looks like with cover plate off. you can see that it only has three (3) screws, and the little the blue dot in the light is the switch, just push it in and it turns on. only two little wires out the back. hope this is of some assistance.
