Gday All

If joe bloggs came and asked you, could they borrow your boat for the weekend Would you lend it to them and why?

if joe bloggs came and asked you, they have a friend from another state could they borrow your boat for the weekend, would you lend your boat to joe bloggs friend and why?

if a forum member posted on these boards and asked on behalf of another person from another state if any member could borrow another members boat, would you lend it to them and why?

the reason i am asking these questions as apperently this is now quite common thing to do in the ABT tournements as it helps other cometitors save on fuel and transport costs etc

for the life of me i cant understand why 1 would lend there pride and joy out to another person specially to people ya dont even know accept that they are fellow abt cometitors

cheers

no - I don;t think I would lend the boat out under any circumstances. I would never ask for a "lend" of a boat and would not expect anyone to ask me.

Hiring a boat is differnt.

After having to pay to fix major problems caused by a family member I lent my boat to I would most definately not lend my boat to anyone ever again, my boat is just a cheap little run about but its my pride and joy and only goes where I go.

The reason i have asked these questions

is that i have been doing alot of reading on the Australian bream tournements. and came across a couple of guys asking if they could borrow a boat during the tournament as these guys was from a different state and the would reciprocate the loan of there boat in there state.

i thought these guys had a bit of nerve to ask but apperently what i have been told it is quite normal and understanding of some competitors to lend there boat out to these guys for the same deal...

i had 1 guys say me why cant we just live in a sharing caring world... my thoughts here he has been smokin to much hooch...

some reasons they did this is becuase they have failed to qualify from previous rounds, its the last round before finals, it saves them money in towing their boats to and from interstate

in my opinion wether my boat cost me 1 dollar or 40 000 dollar its what everyone else here has said its ya pride and joy and we have worked long and hard to gain them and to have complete strangers write them off on us

cheers

I would only lend the boat to my brothers as I know that they care enough to do the right thing.

We fish Corner Inlet and it's not the sort of place that you would want to let other people use your boat, there is a high probability that they would run aground .

I have lent my boat to my sons for a weekend, and to close family for a matter of hours, but no-one who is unknown to me gets near it.
Worth considering a slightly different question - what would you be willing to lend to a total stranger?

grandad used to say there are 3 things you dont lend:

your car
your wife
your dog

i asked why only once "because the all come back f*&@ed" i would say this would extend to your boat also :)

I would be happy to take mates out for the day, but would not lend it out...

The only other person who skippers my boat is the old man...but we are 50/50 owners...so its really his as well, so it really isnt borrowing it....

i beleive if they want to be in the comp or whatever they should bare the cost ......... i would not lend it to NO-ONE ........ i had a good mate that i always go fishing with and i was trying to do a good deed by helping a fellow fisherman ........to cut the long story short my mate drove the boat close to the other boat( too slose and bang ) slamed it to it so .............. if you ask me they can bare the cost

oz..Absolutly deffenantly not..
this might sound a bit harsh , but as all boaties no things can go pear shaped out on the water or even at the boat ramp for that matter..Now lets say for no fault of their own they damage our pride and joy, does insurance cover it..or they fall over on the boat, who pays when u get sued..or the classic that happened to me once, so called mate says "sorry steveo was a bit rough coming back got a bit of water in the boat oh yea by the way yr gps is fried.".Along with about 20yrs of marks..had this particular boat for 5yrs been out in horrendus seas never so much as a cup full of water, well u no what i mean...so absolutly deffenantly not....

I have one friend I would loan my boat to and trust with. Anyone else would need to look elsewhere.

I think lending a boat out to people is a risk and should not be lended out to anyone you cannot trust with it or who do not know how to handle a boat correctly. Taking someone with you on your own vessell is at your own will and could be a safer option rather than just lending out your boat to a stranger especially, what is this mordialloc boat hires?
