Noticed last christmas that one of the connectors within the plug that goes into the back of the FF was starting to corrode.Figured that it must be the wire that carries the power into the unit and just sprayed it with wd40 after every use and kept an eye on it. Last trip out the unit failed to power up, the connector now being so chewed back that it failed to make contact with the pin on the finder. Several attempts to form a bridge failed including pushing some strands of copper wire into the little hole, some hook shank, and some silver foil.

Had a miserable day out on WPB with no sounder, like being blind.
Contacted my retailer after getting home only to be told that the whole transducer needs to be replaced just because the plug is buggered. Sounds like a heck of a waste to have to replace the whole lot and the price quoted for a new transducer has me feeling that I may as well upgrade the entire setup.

Any members had any experience with a similar problem and found another fix?? Steve.

what is the brand and does the power go into that plug as all the fish finders I have played with the power is through a different plug.

Hi Geoff, yes the power cable runs into the back of the plug alongside the cable from the transducer, both into the one. I just figured that the connector thats corroded was the power one and was being chewed by some form of electrolysis. The FF is a little Navman Fish 4430. Steve.

Steve, without seeing the plug makes it hard to work out a way to fix it. I would also be looking at the pins in the socket on the back of the ff. If they are corroded as well you have on of two choices in my point of view. 1 upgrade or 2 contact Navman in Sydney to see about a repair. Look up the web site and all the info is there for repairs. Might be an idea to call them and have a chat to them about the problem. They did have a deal going were they will repair anything to do with the unit except LCD for $99.00 and LCD's $120.00 and that includes them posting the item back to you by courier. I can only highly recommend their service as I purchased a 5100 chart plotter on ebay really cheap including the maps from Portland to Batemans Bay. When I went to pick it up the guy admitted it had a damaged socket on the back, but the price was to good to let go as the unit still worked fine. One day I was looking around for a repair joint to get a new socket and found out about the Navman deal and now the unit is like new. I thought there was only a damaged socket but they also repaired the circuit and replaced they front half of the housing and posted it back by courier for $99.00 and was all done within 7 days. It might be worth a try if you don't want the exspense of a new unit.
