Where are the good marks around Altona for Snapper??
I have been launching there for years and have had my best success when fishing around the blinker, and the Black Rock area.I had a top year when the Gas platform was in for repair but rarely see or catch around P2 or Dumb Joe!!

Like any place, you need to find the fish, no point in just heading to P2 or DumbJoe, throwing the anchor over, tossing out a few baits and hoping the fish will be there...
assuming you are wanting to target snapper, try sounding from the Cardinal marker (2km east straight out from the altona ramp) to P2, if you find a patch of fish stop and anchor.
good luck!

Im told that the southern end of the bay is suffering from to much salinity due to the drought for the Snapper to be around in numbers??

Also, don't fall into the trap of seeing a huddle of boats and anchoring amongst the pack thinking they must be catching fish...
lets us know how you go.
