Kaz,
Most vetinaries you will find, will take them and pass the animal on to the rescue centres. if not I think they can also lend you a cage.

nah, magpie to small, now if it was a rabbit it might be a different story, I have heard several times that a skun rabbit is dynamite bait, but highly ilegal.

I too have a baby magpie in the backyard, in the mullberry tree.
Nearly every year one gets blown out of the 150y/o gum tree in the back.
No damage to him, and parents still hanging around.
He's been trying to fly, but only going from low branch to branch.
Usually takes a week for them to find their wings.
Good luck Kazz. And keep taking him out the back, throw him a few feet in
the air, and let him flutter and glide. Helps them to shed their baby feathers,
and grow muscles.
A deformed leg shouldnt keep him grounded long.

I no longer need a cage as I built one today that does the job just fine and the maggie is doing very well, Ive been in wildlife rescue for a few years but usually deal with possums, wombats and little roo,s so Dave you will understand why I wont be inviting you around during shark season.
