Hi guys after spending two weeks down at Phillip Island it became obvious that the launch and retrieve facilities are a joke
The amount of traffic that the ramps get through the summer season Bass Shire should be ashamed at the upkeep, lets look at the major ramp Cowes or as most know it as Anderson wet ramp if you launch on your own forget this ramp as there is no where to tie your boat up once launched + it is inundated with sea doos that the majority think that five knots is five bumps in a rope
Next Rhyll which has had an upgrade sign on it for two years at least this has a pontoon on it which is in dire need of repair and of course if you dont use this ramp at slack tide its quite difficult to retrieve your boat
then theres NewHaven which of course if you are based in Cowes why bother its the same story
I know I am grizzaling a bit but on the amount the Shire makes from ramp fees i believe we deserve better

Inverloch ramp also comes under the Bass Shire umbrella Alan and it is a wonderful facility, but busy like you would'nt believe this time of year. Inverloch, or Andersons Inlet would have to be the Jet ski centre of the bloomin cosmos, fair dinkum!! Last year we returned to Inverlock ramp, where we had launched from to find the launch/ retrieve que go right through the carpark, down to the road and down the road I jumped out, told my son to take the boat up to Mahrs landing, and was lucky to be able to weave my way out of the carpark, noting the last car in the que at the time. Drove down to Mahrs and as no one was on the ramp backed down as my boat came into view. We loaded and returned to our place via the Inverloch ramp and the car I would have been behind was still on the road, not even in the carpark yet!! Would still have had to wait over an hour to retrieve his boat.

I spent 2 weeks in Cowes at Phillip Island last year and didnt really have any issues. That said i had to launch at Ryhll as Cowes ramp is tiny. I will say though water activities growing at the rate they are i see big problems for the future.
One thing that really peeved me Saturday was Stoney Point and being made to buy a ticket "LEAVING". Obviously no one was there when i launched 8.30pm Friday night but by 7.30am Saturday i was made to buy a parking ticket when leaving.

They must be making an absolute packet at the ramps especially during the holidays yet the conditions and facilities of our ramps are a farce.
They need to start using the hard earned cash we fork out at the ramps to up grade them, put in more pontoons, repair and maintain the facilities and maybe even set up smaller ramps for more easily launched jet ski,s ect and leave the ramps for boats which are slower to launch and retrieve.

The problem boaties have is that the majority of us don't live in the area where the ramps are so the councilpersons don't feel voter pressure to take any intrest in them

you would think it would be that way Kaz but I can get the boat on the trailer, out of the water and be halfway home by the time some people are finished showing off their shiny new jetski's on the ramp.

Lauched at warmies to have three boats each recover in the middle of the ramp blocking both ramps. I was furious.
But what can u do, unless u want a fight.

I agree Dave if only they wouldn't stop and chat with each other while they are trying to retrieve their phallic symbols
to be fair they are not all like that are they?
Holiday time seems to bring out the most frustrating behavior at ramps its like we don't live here so who cares I'm on Holiday if the water police had been at the Island for the summer season there coffers would be full

I have not seen any work on our local ramps over this winter yet its very obviouse that there are repair / upgrade issues with some of our busiest ramps.
But they have finally commenced work on the Rosebud jetty, which will have fishing Dave getting his shark gear ready. :D:cool:

A call for everyone to go to their local ramps and take photos and post them.

Grant a few years ago Roy did a whole heap of reviews on some ramps, I did mordialloc and from memory warnett, and patto and maybe stkilda as well. They should be on the site somewhere.

Just a quick note;
Cowes ramp is covered in sand and can only be launched on with 4wd, it has been this way for a couple of months.
I reckon about 10 or more cars would have been bogged on sunday alone.
