Hit portland with a few mates for a week before easter. Fishing out of a Barcrusher 560c we were able to fish the shelf everyday (except one where we stayed in close due to technical problems with the sounder/GPS) in some rough conditions.
We did however have a couple of good days fishing..
Saturday
on the saturday we pushed out way put in some nasty conditions but had a great day, with 5 Bluefin for the boat. a double hook up first up and then a triple on the next pass was enough for us so we started the long trip back in and had to troll most of the way due to the rough weather, we also picked up 3 stripies on the way in.

Sunday
This was a non event with the sounder/gps carking it. we stayed in close and caught a dozen snook and a morwong. we then had to buy a handheld GPS to get us through the rest of the week.
Monday
We were once again out on the shelf and this time no bluefin were caught, but we did catch 3 albacore to 17kgs.

Tuesday and Wednesday
Fishing was quiet all round due to the full moon, only a couple of fish were caught between all boats.
Thursday
This was our last day, which saw the action start to pick up again with one spectacular strike and bust off, we ran a big black pakula lure about 10 inches long and it got slammed.. unfortunately the drag on the penn inter was a bit sticky (we weren't aware at the time) and we lost what would have been a nice fish. we then picked up a small albi not long after and that was it for the day.

Best lures for us were x-raps and killer vibes with a black bart skirted lure also picking up a couple of fish.
This was my first trip to Portland and i will be back a few times before the season is done with, hopefully the wind we have had of late will bring more fish in.
