PORT MELBOURNE CHANNEL – RE‐ALIGNED
NEW LATERAL MARK BEACONS– TO BE ESTABLISHED.

Details: Mariners are advised that the works to protect the gas pipeline south of Fawkner beacon has been completed. The East cardinal buoy (Lat: 37° 57.140’ S Long:144° 55.560’ E) and West cardinal buoy
(Lat:37° 57.137’ S Long:144° 55.399’ E) marking the works will be removed on or around 18 August 2009.
Mariners are advised that the Port Melbourne Channel south of beacons No. 1 and 2 has been re‐aligned and extended, marked by beacons E1, E2, and 1A, 2A.
The alignment of the channel between beacons E1, E2 and
Port Melbourne Channel beacons No. 1, No.2 is 003.3(T) <‐> 183.3(T).
New standard single steel pile beacons with beacon top and light will be established in the following positions to mark this new section of the channel.

Mariners should be aware that the new beacons will be positioned at a lateral distance of 15 metres outside the toeline of the channel.
The planned sequence of works will commence with the removal of the cardinal buoys followed by the driving of beacon No. 2A, then No.1A, then E1 and E2.
The works will commence on or around Tuesday 18‐August‐ 2009 and will be conducted by Barge “JUB 2”, Deck Barge “Taree”, Work Boat “Taurus” and Crew boat “Abyss” operating between 07.00 hrs and 18.00 hrs (daylight hours).
The barges and work boats will be positioned outside the channel toeline.
Updated information about the operation and the location of the work barge can be obtained during the specified working hours on:
• VHF Ch.12 direct from the barge, or through Melbourne VTS; and

Mariners are advised to reduce speed and proceed with caution when in close proximity to the work
